A shower radio is one of those useful bathroom gadgets that many people would be pleased to have. You can listen to weather and traffic news while taking a warm shower first thing in the morning, so that you know what to expect on your way to the office. After a hard day’s work, you can tune into your favorite jazz music station while having a relaxing bath. It just makes your showering and bathing experience so much more enjoyable.

The most important quality of a radio intended for bathroom use is that it has to be waterproof. Most ordinary radios will not be able to endure the humid environment of a bathroom, let alone survive an accidental drop into a bath tub filled with water. This is why shower radios have to be specially designed.

There are many shower radios on the market. Unfortunately, according to user reviews, most of these radios suffer from one or more of the following problems: shoddy construction, cheap materials, inadequate water insulation, lack of durability, poor signal reception and low sound quality. In particular, many users complain of difficulties tuning into their favorite stations. A lot of these radios have poor antennas and thus are unable to receive as many AM/FM channels as ordinary radios. And even if they do, the reception is often fuzzy and intermittent. This problem is often made worse by cheap loudspeakers that play hollow and tinny sounds.

It seems that many manufacturers have not got serious with designing and manufacturing radios designed for the bathroom. The end result is that shower radios are often perceived as inherently low quality products.

Fortunately this is not always true. The good news is that there are good ones around, though they are few and far between. One of them is the Sangean H201. There are many good things to be said about this radio but four main ones are: excellent AM/FM radio reception, crystal clear sound, tough water resistance and high build quality. It is a cut above other similar products on the market. From consumer reviews, the Sangean H201 has shown that it can tune into stations that other shower radios have difficulty receiving, and that its sound quality is excellent with hardly any distortion even at high volumes. Its solid, sturdy, high quality construction also impresses many users. Furthermore it comes with other useful features like 10 station presets, LCD display, clock, timers and two mounting options.

With the Sangean H201, you will now be able to truly enjoy high quality radio broadcasts while taking a shower or having a bath.

Every time we are in the shower we get the feeling of being a little close to nature. The feeling is beyond the mere need to clean our bodies, it is something more. Just like us, animals feel the urge to bathe, to cleanse themselves and in some cases just to be closer to the better side of nature.

This innocent need to come into contact with water sometimes ends in disaster. Recently, a large number of hippos were discovered dead in Africa with no apparent sign of any disease. Deeper study found that they had actually died of Anthrax pores. A huge lake was found to be infected with the Anthrax virus.

Similarly, little do we humans know about the hidden dangers of our shower. Almost all municipal water supplies are chlorinated which is intended to act as a disinfectant. This ends up harming the human body because our body absorbs it from the shower. Chlorine harms the human body in the following ways.

Harmful Effects of Chlorine

- It hardens arteries

- Destroys proteins in the body

- Irritates skin and sinus conditions

- Aggravates asthma, allergies, and respiratory problems

The dangers of bathing without a shower filter have long been identified and discussed.

“A long, hot shower can be dangerous. The toxic chemicals are inhaled in high concentrations.”
Dr. John Andelman, PhD., Bottom Line, 8/87

“Is Your Water Safe – The Dangerous State of Your Water”
U.S. News & World Report – July 29, 1991

There are several byproducts of chlorination, each deadlier than the next and vice versa.

CHLOROFORM

- Causes excessive free radical formation (accelerated aging!)

- Causes normal cells to mutate

- Causes cholesterol to oxidize

DCA (Dichloro acetic acid)

- Alters cholesterol metabolism

- Has been shown to cause liver cancer in lab animals.

MX (another chlorinated acid)

- Cause genetic mutations that can lead to cancer growth

- It has been found in all chlorinated water for which it was tested

“Research has proven that chlorinated water is the direct cause of 9% of all bladder cancers and 15% of all rectal cancers in the US”. Read the full article here.

The evidence is clear. The risks are tremendous. The advice is simple: Stop chlorinating your body! The simple solution is a good Shower Filter System.

You must take care of your skin and protect your health, with pure, clean, energized water using a shower filter system. A good shower filter system effectively removes 95% or more of harmful chlorine from shower water. It must also include an anions swirling deflector.

Negatively Charged Ions and the Anion Swirling Deflector:
An anion is a negatively charged ion. Anions swirling deflector acts upon the water to create a softer, more energized shower “feel” and improves both lathering and sudsing.

This innovative deflector generates negative ions by swirling in the water. Areas close to waterfalls, or within forests, are full of negative ions. The impact between the particles from water and the environment produces electrostatic, which leads to the negative ions filling the air. Meanwhile, the plants release water particles along with electrostatics which also fill the forest with negative ions. And this is the reason why people feel energetic while in those areas.

The main advantages of negative ions for the human body include cleansing of the blood, enhancement of the immune system, improved blood circulation, activation of cells, improved sleep quality, reduced stress and fatigue and adjustment of the autonomous nervous system.

Ideally a good shower filter should be designed in a way that it produces water the way nature intended, bringing the normal shower closer to a healthy spa.

It’s a fact that we deserve healthier water in every aspect of our daily life, not just the drinking water. A good spa shower filter provides a long lasting solution to the problems associated with exposure to excessive amounts of chlorine. The best spa shower filter would use a chlorine reduction material — Calcium Sulfite. This results in your hair and skin feeling better including…

- Healthier, younger-looking skin
- Softer, more manageable hair
- Relief from dry skin and scalp
- Less fading on color-treated hair

If you are not sure that you want to believe that you are breathing and absorbing chlorine in your shower, then try this simple test. Use OTO chlorine test drops from a regular pool testing kit which can be purchased at places like Walmart for about . Pour two separate cups of your own tap water. Place one finger in one cup for about 5 minutes. Then test the first cup that didn’t have the finger in it to show how much chlorine is in their water. Next, test the cup that had the finger in it. It will not show nearly as much chlorine as the other glass. Where did it go? Your body absorbed it! Just like it does when you are showering or bathing!

‘Safety first’. As with most things, when not used correctly or abused a steam shower can cause harm. This article will touch on a number of different ways to stay safe when using a steam shower.

Steam Shower Precaution 1: Acclimatisation

When using a steam shower for the first time it is important to ease into the routine, not attempting to reach high temperatures immediately. First timers may have the inclination to stay in the steam shower for a long time as the experience is exciting and exhilarating, however, it is wise not to push the body too hard, therefore start off slowly.

Stay in the steam shower until your body tells you it’s time to stop. Listen to your body and don’t force it to stay in the steam shower longer than it feels comfortable. Everyone’s body is different: Therefore, it is hard to give one generic temperature that people can stay in the steam shower until. One can usually recognize when the body has had enough as you will start to feel uncomfortable. When this is the case, turn the steam function off and exit the steam shower. On your next steam shower session, follow the same procedure and listen to your body. Over time, as your body becomes acclimatized to the hot humid temperatures, you may be able to stay in the steam shower for longer and may be able to sustain higher temperatures.

Steam Shower Precaution 2: Food

While taking a steam shower it’s important not to bathe on an empty or a full stomach. On an empty stomach blood sugars may drop, causing the body to feel faint and weak. On the other hand it is important not to use a steam shower on a full stomach as blood, oxygen and water, which is used in cooling the body, is being used to digest the food. It is best to eat a light snack before using a steam shower.

Steam Shower Precaution 3: Hydration

The main effect a steam shower has on the body is to make it sweat. Sweating lowers the body’s water level, therefore it is critical to ensure one is well hydrated before and after a steam shower session. A deficiency in water can results in headaches and other problems. Prevent any problems and drink plenty of water before and after a steam shower session.

Steam Shower Precaution 4: Metal Jewellery, Contact Lenses

Temperatures in a steam shower can reach 44°C and above. These temperatures can cause metal jewellery to heat up and potentially burn the skin. Therefore, it is advised not to wear metal jewellery while using a steam shower. Contact lenses can also irritate the eyes while in the steam shower, therefore it is recommended to take them out before a steam session.

Steam Shower Precaution 5: Slipping

As with all showers and baths, it is possible to slip in a steam shower. Be careful when stepping in and out of the steam shower to avoid slipping.

Steam Shower Precaution 6: Rest

It’s important not to use a steam shower when your body is exhausted. A tired body cannot cope with the high temperatures of a steam shower as efficiently as a body that has a lot of energy. Ensure one is rested before using a steam shower.

Steam Shower Precaution 7: Fainting – Stand up slowly

Standing up to quickly and feeling faint has probably happened to most people at some time or another. It is especially important not to stand up too quickly in a steam shower as it may cause you to feel faint. Standing up quickly causes blood to drain from the head, which causes a faint feeling, or even causing the body to faint.

Steam Shower Precaution 8: Steam Outlet

The steam outlet on the steam shower is similar to a kettle in many ways. Water is boiled and is deposited into the steam shower through the steam generator. Steam is hotter than boiling water, therefore it is important to avoid contact with the steam outlet or be in close proximity to it while the steam function is operating.
